Artist's Comments

For my Visual Studies Design class, we had to design a new cover for a book. I chose to do F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby", one of my favorites from high school. I aimed to tap into several different symbolic elements that emerge in the book, colors especially:

White - False purity and goodness, innocence, and royalty/aristocracy.
Yellow - Moral decay, decadence, and death.
Green - Hope.

I had a lot of fun with this one, I'm actually quite satisfied with it.

Ahh, I like this a lot! It fits the book really nicely, and it's a lot nicer looking that than creepy eye cover most of them seem to have.

great concept and image, but i kind of wish the placement of the type was a little bit different.

mainly, i feel like the title is too low on the page visually, and the author's name is dangerously close to the edge. that said, i feel that the typeface you chose is perfect.

One of my favorite books.

Love this cover idea. I remember focusing a great deal of time on the color symbolism in class as well. Anyway, this is a very appealing cover--intriguing too.

Wow no way! I had to do a similar project for my Digital Design class last year 8D
Yours is, might I say, rather amazing compared to mine xD
My project was also based on the color symbolism in the story and I love how you put them all together in a flowing work of art!

I could actually see this on the bookshelf in Borders. :P

Haven't read it myself but the cover makes it seem intriguing to me.

Oh, that suits the book really well. :D I had to read it this year and it was quite an interesting one.

And the Lord came unto the Earth and made the Panda to his likeness. And He spoke, saying, "Thou shalt be of a cheery disposition and be loved by all." And the Lord smiled upon the Panda and gave it a branch of bamboo. (Panda 13:22)
